Reclaim space on your Mac—without losing control

JunkYard Cleaner Home dashboard showing 77 percent disk usage, space available now, and storage managed by macOS

JunkYard finds rebuildable clutter, old downloads, app leftovers, duplicates, backups, and other storage you may no longer need. Safe cleanup is separated from personal files, and nothing is removed before you review it.

The Problem

Clean confidently, not blindly

JunkYard separates rebuildable clutter from downloads, backups, duplicates, and personal files.

You see what is selected, what needs review, and what macOS manages before anything moves.

Every cleanup remains under your control.

Guided Recovery

JunkYard builds a clear recovery plan for your Mac. Safe, rebuildable clutter is selected first, while downloads, backups, duplicates, and personal files remain separate for review.

Highlights

  • Safe, rebuildable files selected first
  • Personal files always reviewed separately
  • Clear amount selected before cleanup
  • Stale results reconciled after cleanup; files move to Trash

Keep storage healthy over time

Maintenance turns cleanup into an understandable routine. Track genuinely free storage, see how it changes, and open focused checks for downloads, browser storage, backups, and duplicates.

Highlights

  • Track free storage and changes since monitoring began
  • Review cleanup suggestions without starting over
  • Check browser storage separately from personal data
  • Inspect downloads, device backups, and duplicates

Bring order to Downloads

Review old downloads, installers, archives, and unusually large files in one focused workspace. Nothing is selected for you simply because it is old.

Highlights

  • Filter installers, archives, large files, and older files
  • See file age and size before making a decision
  • Inspect an item before selecting it
  • Move only your reviewed selection to Trash

Remove apps without leaving clutter behind

Application Uninstaller and App Leftovers find high-confidence support files associated with software you removed. Every result remains visible and reviewable before removal.

Highlights

  • Find caches, support files, preferences, and web storage
  • Show the location and size of every candidate
  • Require review before any leftover is selected
  • Move approved items to Trash for recovery

See where your storage is changing

Storage Map shows which Home-folder areas use the most space and compares them with your previous scan. It helps explain growth without pretending that every large folder is safe to clean.

Highlights

  • Compare folder sizes at a glance
  • See what grew or shrank since the previous scan
  • Protect folders that should stay outside cleanup
  • Keep Time Machine and APFS storage identified as system-managed

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does JunkYard require Full Disk Access?

No. During onboarding, you choose your Home folder. JunkYard stores that permission as a security-scoped bookmark so it can scan the folder you selected without Full Disk Access.

What does JunkYard clean automatically?

JunkYard can preselect safe, rebuildable clutter in Guided Recovery. It still shows the selection and total amount for your confirmation before moving anything to Trash.

Are personal files selected automatically?

No. Downloads, backups, duplicates, and other personal files remain in separate review areas so you can decide what to remove.

Does cleanup immediately increase free space?

Not always. JunkYard moves cleaned files to Trash for recovery. Their storage is not released until you empty the Trash, and macOS may take time to reconcile its storage figures.

Why does Apple Storage show more available space?

macOS may count purgeable or system-managed storage as available even when an app cannot use it immediately. JunkYard distinguishes currently free space from storage managed by macOS.

Does JunkYard remove Time Machine snapshots?

No. Time Machine and APFS storage are shown as system-managed information and are not counted as directly cleanable space.

Can JunkYard uninstall applications and find leftovers?

Yes. Application Uninstaller and App Leftovers help you review an app and related files before removal.

Can I recover cleaned files?

Yes, while they remain in Trash. Emptying Trash permanently removes them, so review the contents first.

Does any scan data leave my Mac?

No scan or cleanup data leaves your Mac. Optional on-device cleanup receipts show what was moved without storing full absolute paths, and you can clear history from Settings.

What are Developer Tools?
