Welcome to CalmLedger ("we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we handle your information when you use our iOS application.
2. Data Collection & Storage
Local Storage Only:
- All your financial data (budgets, expenses, categories, payment methods) is stored locally on your device using SwiftData
- We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your financial information on our servers
- We have no access to your budget data, transaction details, or spending information
iCloud Sync (Optional):
- If you enable iCloud sync, your budget data is encrypted and synchronized to your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit
- This data is stored in Apple's CloudKit private database, which only you can access
- We cannot access data stored in your private iCloud account
- Your data is protected by end-to-end encryption during transmission
- You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device settings
3. AI Insights & Processing
On-Device Processing:
- All AI-powered spending analysis and smart suggestions run entirely on your device
- We use Apple's Core ML and on-device natural language processing
- No financial data is sent to external servers or third-party AI services
- Your spending patterns, insights, and recommendations remain completely private
4. Notifications
Local Notifications:
- We request permission to send you local notifications for budget alerts and recurring expense reminders
- All notifications are generated locally on your device
- You can manage notification preferences in the app settings or your device's Settings app
- We do not send push notifications from external servers
5. Camera Access (Optional)
Receipt Scanning:
- If you choose to use the receipt scanning feature, we request camera access
- Camera access is only used to scan receipts using Apple's VisionKit framework
- All receipt processing happens on your device
- Scanned receipt images are not uploaded to any servers
- Receipt data is stored locally in your budget database
- You can deny camera access and still use all other app features
6. Subscription & Payment Information
In-App Purchases:
- Subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store
- We use StoreKit 2 to manage subscriptions
- Apple processes all payment information
- We do not collect or store your payment card details
- We only receive anonymous transaction identifiers from Apple to verify subscription status
Trial Information:
- Free trial eligibility is determined by Apple's App Store records
- We check your transaction history through StoreKit to verify trial status
- This information is processed locally on your device
7. Analytics & Crash Reporting
Minimal Analytics:
- We do not currently use third-party analytics services
- We may collect anonymous usage statistics in the future (e.g., feature usage, subscription events)
- Any future analytics will be opt-in or use Apple's privacy-preserving analytics
- We will update this policy before implementing any analytics services
No Tracking:
- We do not track your activity across other apps or websites
- We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers
- We do not create user profiles for marketing purposes
8. Data Sharing & Third Parties
Family Sharing (Optional):
- If you enable budget sharing through iCloud Family Sharing, your budget data is shared with family members you explicitly invite
- Shared data is transmitted through Apple's CloudKit with end-to-end encryption
- You control who has access to your shared budgets
- You can revoke sharing access at any time
No Third-Party Sharing:
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties
- We do not use third-party advertising networks
- We do not share data with analytics companies (currently)
- All data processing happens on your device or in your private iCloud account
9. Data Retention & Deletion
Your Control:
- You have complete control over your data
- You can delete individual expenses, budgets, or all data from within the app
- Deleting the app removes all locally stored data from your device
- To delete iCloud data, you must delete it from within the app before uninstalling
- You can disable iCloud sync in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → CalmLedger
10. Children's Privacy
Age Restrictions:
- Our app is not directed at children under 13
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13
- If you are under 13, please do not use this app
- Parents who believe their child has used the app should contact us
11. Security
Data Protection:
- All local data is protected by iOS device encryption
- iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest
- We follow Apple's security best practices
- We recommend enabling device passcode/biometric authentication
- We recommend enabling two-factor authentication for your Apple ID
12. International Users
Data Location:
- Your data is stored on your device (your physical location)
- iCloud data is stored in Apple's global data centers
- Apple's data storage complies with regional privacy laws
- We do not transfer data internationally (all processing is local)
13. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident:
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
- You have the right to know what data we collect (see sections above)
- You have the right to delete your data (see section 9)
- You have the right to opt-out of data sales (not applicable - we don't sell data)
